Longtail boat in turquoise water below limestone cliffs
Phi Phi Islands, Krabi Province

Phi Phi Islands & Maya Bay by Speedboat

This is the Phi Phi day most people come to Phuket for, done by speedboat so the crossing takes about an hour instead of two. You stop at seven places: Bamboo Island for snorkeling, Monkey Beach, a buffet lunch on Phi Phi Don, Viking Cave, Pileh Lagoon, Loh Samah Bay and Maya Bay, the beach from the film The Beach. Swimming in Maya Bay itself is not allowed; the boat moors at the back of Phi Phi Leh and you walk to the beach on a boardwalk.

Ko Tapu pinnacle at James Bond Island with a passing speedboat
Phang Nga Bay, Phang Nga Province

James Bond Island & Phang Nga Bay with Canoeing

Phang Nga Bay is the sea of limestone towers north-east of Phuket, and this day covers its best-known parts by speedboat. A local paddler takes you by canoe into the caves and hidden lagoon of Hong Island, you walk on James Bond Island in front of the Ko Tapu pinnacle from The Man with the Golden Gun, and lunch is served at Koh Panyee, a fishing village on stilts. The day ends with a swim at Khai Island.

Green sea turtle swimming over a reef
Similan Islands National Park, Phang Nga Province

Similan Islands by Speedboat

The Similans are a national park of granite islands about 70 km off Khao Lak, with the clearest water on Thailand's Andaman coast. This day trip starts early: pickup in Phuket from about 5:30 am, then the speedboat from Thap Lamu pier in Khao Lak. You snorkel at three islands, where turtles and clownfish are often seen, swim at Donald Duck Bay and climb to the Sail Rock viewpoint. The park is open only from 15 October to 14 May, and a passport copy is required the day before.

Longtail boats on the sand at Railay under limestone cliffs
Ao Nang, Krabi

Krabi 4 Islands or Hong Islands by Speedboat

Krabi's islands are close to Ao Nang, so the boat rides are short and most of the day is beach time. The 4 Islands tour visits Phra Nang Cave Beach at Railay, walks the sandbar between Tup and Chicken islands, snorkels a reef and has a picnic lunch on Poda; you are back at about 2:00 pm. The Hong Islands tour goes north to Pakbia, Lading and the lagoon of Hong Island, with lunch on the beach and a climb to the 360° viewpoint, back at about 3:30 pm.

Aerial view of the islands of Ang Thong National Marine Park
Ang Thong National Marine Park, Surat Thani

Ang Thong Marine Park by Speedboat

Ang Thong is a national park of 42 limestone islands an hour west of Koh Samui. The tour lands on two of them: near the Emerald Lake, a bright green saltwater lake inside the cliffs, and on Koh Wua Ta Lap, where a steep 15-minute climb with ropes leads to the view over the whole archipelago. Kayaks and snorkeling gear are included, and lunch is a Thai buffet on the beach. Note: the park is closed to visitors from 1 November to 15 December 2026.

Pig walking on a sandy beach by clear blue water
Koh Samui, Surat Thani

Koh Samui Pig Island & Island Day

Koh Madsum, better known as Pig Island, is a small island off the south of Koh Samui where a family of pigs lives on the beach and wanders into the shallow water. The boat stops first at Koh Tan to snorkel, then at Pig Island for swimming, photos and the pigs. The longer island day starts on land: the Heaven Gate viewpoint, lunch at The Roof Samui and I Love Elephant Samui, then the same boat trip to Koh Tan and Pig Island.

Vendors selling fruit from boats at a floating market in Thailand
Samut Songkhram and Ratchaburi, from Bangkok

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market & Railway Market

Maeklong Railway Market is set on a working railway line: when the train comes, the vendors fold their umbrellas and pull their goods back, and a few minutes after it passes the market is back in place. Damnoen Saduak is the best-known floating market near Bangkok, where boats sell fruit, snacks and souvenirs on the canals; a longtail boat ride is included. The third stop is Wat Bang Kung, a small chapel wrapped in the roots of a banyan tree.

Ruins of Wat Chaiwatthanaram in Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya, from Bangkok

Ayutthaya Day Trip from Bangkok

Ayutthaya was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam from 1351 until it was destroyed in 1767, and its temple ruins have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. This day trip covers the five places most people come for: Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon with its big chedi and reclining Buddha, Wat Mahathat with the Buddha head held in the roots of a banyan tree, Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the great bronze Buddha of Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, and the Khmer-style towers of Wat Chaiwatthanaram.

Two Asian elephants bathing in a forest river
Doi Inthanon National Park, Chiang Mai

Elephant Sanctuary & Doi Inthanon from Chiang Mai

This day puts two of Chiang Mai's best trips together. In the morning you spend time with the elephants at a sanctuary: you feed them, walk with them and bathe them in the river, and there is no riding. After lunch the van climbs Doi Inthanon, at 2,565 metres the highest point in Thailand, to the twin pagodas built for the King and Queen, and the day ends with a guided hike past rice fields and a waterfall to a hill village.

Speedboats near Koh Larn with green hills behind
Koh Larn, Pattaya

Koh Larn Coral Island by Speedboat

Koh Larn, also called Coral Island, is the island 7 km off Pattaya with the clearest water on this coast and several beaches.
