The Walking Street runs only Friday, Saturday and Sunday

If you search for the night market in Krabi, you usually mean the Krabi Walking Street in Krabi Town. Thai Holiday Guide says it takes over Soi Maharaj 8, a lane behind Vogue Department Store, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from about 17:00 to 22:00. Entry is free. It has run since 2013 and has roughly 50 to 70 pitches, most of them food stalls. On other nights the same lane is an ordinary street.

Wikivoyage describes the same market as lying between Vogue Department Store and the Vieng Thong Hotel, with a largish seating area, and says it sells clothes and handicrafts as well as food. It is walkable from most guesthouses in Krabi Town, according to Thai Holiday Guide, and the riverside pier at Jaofa Port and Krabi Town Mosque are within a five-minute walk.

What you eat, and what it costs

This is a place to graze. Thai Holiday Guide lists pad thai cooked to order, grilled seafood such as shrimp, crab, clams and whole fish, papaya salad, satay skewers and mango sticky rice, with several stalls selling a vegetarian pad thai. Most dishes cost under 60 baht, it says, and the usual approach is to try one stall after another, then carry your plates to the communal tables in the central square.

Its Krabi food guide, updated on 10 July 2026 and fact-checked in October 2026, gives example prices: a bag of boiled wing shells for 50 to 60 baht, grilled squid skewers for 40 to 60, roti with condensed milk for 30, and a plate of chicken rice for 60 to 70. Treat them as a guide, because stall prices change. The same guide says the tone is relaxed, with no real bar scene.

When to arrive and how to avoid the queues

Go early. Thai Holiday Guide's page for the market suggests arriving right at 17:00, before queues form at the popular grilled seafood carts, and says that by 19:00 the best-known stalls can have a real wait. Its food guide gives slightly later advice, to arrive at about 6 pm to beat the peak and still find a seat, and warns that the market gets very crowded on Saturday nights. Seating is limited at the markets.

Two practical points. Card readers are rare, so bring cash and small notes, because some stalls struggle to break a 1,000 baht bill early in the evening. And the stalls closest to the stage tend to charge slightly more, according to the food guide, which says walking about 50 metres away drops the same dishes by 10 to 20 baht. Hygiene varies by stall, so choose food that is cooked to order and served hot.

What about Monday to Thursday?

Only smaller markets run on weeknights. Thai Holiday Guide says the Chao Fah Park night market, near Chao Fah Pier, is reported to open most evenings from around 5 pm, with stalls leaning towards curry and rice, grilled chicken and Thai snacks, mostly 40 to 60 baht, but it adds that listings are thin and you should confirm locally. Wikivoyage also lists a pier night food market that opens after 6 pm, with dishes at 30 to 60 baht, updated in January 2024.

In the morning, Wikivoyage lists the Maharaj market, behind a Shell station, from 05:00 to 12:00, as an early-bird market for food, fruit and vegetables. So the honest advice is to plan your Krabi Town evening for a Friday, Saturday or Sunday if you want the full market, and to treat a weeknight visit as a light bite by the river, not a night out.

Getting there from Ao Nang, and getting back

From Ao Nang, Thai Holiday Guide says shared songthaews to Krabi Town run regularly and take about 30 minutes, at 30 to 50 baht, while its food guide says Krabi Town is about 20 minutes away by songthaew or taxi. Wikivoyage's page on Ao Nang gives a fare of 60 baht between Krabi and Ao Nang and says the white songthaews are marked with their destination, so fares may vary by year and driver.

The risk is the return. Wikivoyage's Ao Nang page, an older note, says the songthaews run only in daylight in low season and up to 22:00 in high season. If you stay in Ao Nang, ask your hotel about the last songthaew or arrange a taxi back before you leave, and agree the price first. If you want a relaxed evening, base yourself in Krabi Town for that night.

If you stay in Ao Nang and want a market nearby

Ao Nang has its own small markets. Wikivoyage lists an Ao Nang Landmark Night Market, a Wednesday Evening Market that runs on Wednesdays from 16:00 to 20:00, an Ao Nang Mosque Market and a night market on the 4203 road, all with entries last updated in February 2023. We could not confirm current days or hours, so ask your hotel before you go.

For cheap food, Krabi Town is the better place. Wikivoyage says Krabi Town is far cheaper than Ao Nang, especially for food and drink, and Thai Holiday Guide says the town has one of the best small-city food scenes in southern Thailand, with market stalls charging about 40 baht a skewer. If you only have one free weekend evening, spend it there.

How it fits with our evening tour

Our Krabi 7 Islands sunset tour, from $40 per person, collects guests from hotels in Ao Nang and Krabi Town at about 12:00 to 1:30 pm, serves a buffet dinner with BBQ on Poda Island at sunset, and returns you to your hotel at about 7:30 to 8:00 pm. So dinner is already included that day. If you stay in Krabi Town, you can still reach the Walking Street from about 8 pm, with about two hours of market left.

If you stay in Ao Nang, the same night is tight, because a songthaew ride back after 22:00 may not run. Our Krabi 4 Islands speedboat tour, from $35, is back at about 2:00 pm, which leaves the evening free. See the 7 Islands tour price and the reasons to book for the plan.
