How much does the Phuket elephant sanctuary morning cost?

Our morning at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary costs from $95 per person for guests aged 13 and over. It is a shared-van morning of about 5 to 6 hours, and the programme itself runs from 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm in Paklok, in northeast Phuket. The word 'from' means the starting price per person. Ask us for the children's price when you write, because the $95 is the rate for ages 13 and up.

Booking is done on WhatsApp. Send us the date, your hotel and the number of guests, and we confirm availability, the pickup time and the total before you pay. How and when you pay is agreed with your booking. If your quote differs from anything in this guide, follow the quote. The price covers the whole morning as listed in the next section.

What is included in the $95?

The price covers six things: the round-trip shared hotel transfer in Phuket; a guided programme with the sanctuary's tour guides; a documentary and a visit to the elephant hospital; a vegetarian and vegan Thai buffet lunch with filtered water, coffee, tea and soft drinks; boots, socks, umbrellas and rain coats; and mosquito spray. Lunch is a buffet of homemade vegetarian and vegan dishes at the Tree Top Lounge.

We do not retell the programme here. The order of the morning is in our travel guide for this tour, and the times and packing list are in the tour schedule. For the price, what matters is that the guide, the hospital visit, the lunch and the rain gear are all inside it. Our tour information lists no fee to pay in cash at the sanctuary on the day.

What is not included, and what you may spend

The inclusion list stops at the items above. It does not mention tips, shop purchases or drinks other than those served with lunch, so budget for those yourself if you want them. The transfer is a shared van, not a private car. It can collect you up to 90 minutes before the 9:30 start, depending on your hotel, and it takes you back only when everyone who came in it has returned to the meeting point.

Lateness is the one cost that money does not fix. The sanctuary starts without latecomers, who join the rest of the programme when they arrive, so you would miss the start of the morning. Be in your hotel lobby at the confirmed time. Tell us your hotel when you book, and tell us about any allergies or dietary needs, because the lunch is vegetarian and vegan.

Is the price the same for children?

The $95 price is for guests aged 13 and over; ask us for the children's price when you book. Our tour information says the sanctuary welcomes all ages and has electric golf cars with drivers for families with young children, and a nursery at the Tree Top Lounge. Guests in wheelchairs can join if they can move to a golf car, and the canopy walkway is fully wheelchair-accessible.

So the price question for a family is only the children's rate, which we quote on WhatsApp. The programme itself is the same for everyone: a documentary, the elephant hospital, then a guide along the 500-metre canopy walkway and the forest trails. Young children can use the golf cars. Tell us the ages of your children when you write, so that we can confirm the total for your group.

How long is the morning, door to door?

Plan on 5 to 6 hours. The shared van collects you between about 8:00 and 9:00 am, depending on your hotel, and the sanctuary says the transfer can collect you up to 90 minutes before the 9:30 start. The programme runs from 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm, which is 3.5 hours at the sanctuary, and the van then takes you back to your hotel. We confirm your exact pickup time after you book.

The drive is the part that varies. The sanctuary gives these drive times to Paklok, depending on traffic: Bang Tao and Cherngtalay about 30 minutes, Kamala and Phuket Town about 45, Patong about 55, Karon and Rawai about 1 hour, and Phuket airport about 25. Our tour information puts the transfer at 30 minutes to an hour each way. If you have a flight or a booking in the afternoon, count back from the 1:00 pm finish plus the drive.

When should you book, and when is the sanctuary closed?

Book early. The sanctuary is often full one to two weeks ahead, and up to two weeks ahead from November to April, so send your dates as soon as you know them. It is closed on 13 April (Songkran) and sometimes for private groups, so choose another date if your trip falls on 13 April. The morning runs in all weather.

Season changes the weather, and we confirm the total for your date. Wikipedia's climate table for Phuket gives the wettest months as September (361.2 mm of rain over 22.1 rainy days) and October (320.1 mm over 22.5 days), and the driest as February (23.9 mm). On our tour umbrellas, rain coats, boots and socks are provided, and the canopy walkway has covered sections. The paths can be muddy after heavy rain, so wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty.

Is it worth $95, and who should choose another day?

It costs more than our city tour, our Phi Phi speedboat day and our James Bond Island day, which start at $25, $75 and $85, so be sure of what you are buying. For $95 you get a morning of watching, not touching: no riding, no bathing and, since 1 April 2026, no feeding. World Animal Protection's 2026 report found that only 7.2% of the elephants at Thailand's tourism venues were at venues offering observation only, and that these venues scored highest on welfare.

Choose another day if you want to feed, touch or bathe elephants, because the sanctuary no longer offers that. Choose another day, too, if you want a whole day of sightseeing: this is a morning. The elephants choose where to be, so the guide leads you to wherever they are, and what they do is up to them. For the welfare side, see our guide to an ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket, and for reasons to choose it, why book this tour.
