The things most worth doing in Pattaya are a boat day to Koh Larn, the wooden Sanctuary of Truth, a hill viewpoint, a garden or market half day, and the beaches. The public ferry to Koh Larn has cost 40 baht one way since 10 April 2026, according to Pattaya Mail; the Sanctuary of Truth charges 500 baht by day, according to its own website; and foreigners pay 200 baht at the floating market, according to Wikipedia. Our Koh Larn tour is from $25 per person.

01The island, the Sanctuary of Truth and the viewpoints are the strongest sights, and the ferry (40 baht) and the Sanctuary (500 baht) are the figures that sources confirm.
02Several big attractions marketed as Pattaya are outside the city, in Jomtien, Sattahip or Si Racha, so allow travel time and agree a taxi fare.
03Plan boat days for November to February, and keep a spare day between May and October, when rough seas can suspend speedboats.

What are the best things to do in Pattaya?

Pick one boat day, one culture morning and one view, and leave the rest to the beach. The strongest sights in the sources are Koh Larn, the Sanctuary of Truth, Buddha Hill and its viewpoint, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden and the Pattaya Floating Market. Wikivoyage warns that many attractions marketed as being in Pattaya are actually in Jomtien, Sattahip or Si Racha, so check the distance before you plan two in one day.

Pattaya is also a nightlife city. Wikipedia describes Walking Street as an entertainment and red-light district, and Pattaya Mail describes the city as mixing beach parties and nightlife with nature and parks. This guide stays with the daytime sights and leaves the evenings to you. For a comparison of where to stay, our Jomtien or Pattaya Beach guide sets out the options.

Take a boat to Koh Larn

Koh Larn is 7.5 km off Pattaya, according to Wikipedia, and it is the easiest escape from the city beach. The public ferry costs 40 baht one way, after the Pattaya-Koh Larn Passenger Boat Club raised it from 30 baht from 10 April 2026, and Pattaya Mail said a return trip still costs under 100 baht. Pattaya Mail's August 2026 guide gives a shared speedboat as around 150 to 300 baht per person one way. Both leave from Bali Hai Pier.

Pattaya Mail describes November to February as the high season, and its August 2026 guide says rough seas from May to October can suspend speedboat services. Our Koh Larn Coral Island tour is from $25 per person and lasts about 6 hours: snorkelling and a paddle board at Koh Sak, then about three hours on Koh Larn. Our ferry or speedboat guide and beaches guide go deeper.

See the Sanctuary of Truth

The Sanctuary of Truth is the sight to see if you only choose one on land. It is an unfinished wooden temple-castle in north Pattaya, begun in 1981, whose tallest spire reaches 105 metres, according to Wikipedia. The museum's own website lists 500 baht for an adult by day and 700 baht at night, with free entry under 110 cm. It asks for modest dress and a helmet inside, and gives two to four hours for a visit.

Entry is on timed tours, with English tours listed from 9:10 am to 5:00 pm by day. Our Sanctuary of Truth guide covers fees, hours and what to wear. The museum also lists elephant riding among its activities; we found no price for it and do not cover it here, and you can simply skip it. Because it is in Naklua, north of the centre, allow time to cross town by baht bus or taxi.

Go up Buddha Hill for the view

Buddha Hill is the cheapest big view. Wikivoyage places it between Thap Praya Road and Phratamnak Road, 5 to 10 minutes by songthaew, with the biggest Buddha statue in Pattaya at the summit and a Chinese-style sacred area dedicated to Confucius and Lao-zi nearby. It says the next hill, across Phra Tam Nak Road, has the best viewpoint over the Pattaya Bay coastline and is worth a visit for sunsets, with a temple and a monument to the founding father of the modern Thai navy.

Wikivoyage lists these as places for local worship as well as sightseeing, so dress modestly and keep your voice down at the shrines. We found no entrance fee or opening hours from a current source, so ask locally. Pattaya Mail's December 2024 article also mentions hiking to the Pattaya viewpoint for panoramic views of the coastline. The hill sits on the way to Jomtien, so it combines well with a beach afternoon on that side.

Spend a half day at Nong Nooch or the floating market

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is the big garden. Its own English pages say it opened to the public in 1980, covers over 1,700 rai and welcomes more than 5,000 people a day, and the garden gives its address as Najomtien, Sattahip, at the 163 km marker on Sukhumvit Road. Wikipedia says it is the largest botanical garden in Southeast Asia. The garden lists a daily Thai cultural performance and an elephant show; Wikipedia records a 2019 controversy over the treatment of its elephants, which the garden disputed.

We found no dated 2026 ticket price for Nong Nooch, so we cannot quote one. The Pattaya Floating Market charges foreigners 200 baht, according to Wikipedia, and is a purpose-built market from 2008 with around 400 to 500 shops, so it is a shopping and snacking stop, not a historic one. Both are on the edge of the city and neither is within walking distance of the beach, so agree a taxi fare for the round trip.

Beaches, markets and evenings

Pattaya Beach is about 3 km of sand beside Beach Road, crowded at the best of times, according to Wikivoyage, which calls Wong Phra Chan Beach at its north end a favourite among swimmers and says Naklua's beaches are cleaner and quieter. Jomtien Beach is longer and calmer. Our Jomtien or Pattaya guide covers the water-quality notices of 2026, which are worth reading before you swim.

For evenings, Wikivoyage lists the Made in Thailand Night Bazaar on Second Road near Soi 10, open daily 08:00 to 23:00, and Soi Buakhao Market, which is a daytime market on Tuesdays and Fridays with an evening market further along the road. Walking Street is closed to vehicles in the evening, from 19:00 to 03:00 according to Wikipedia, and is an adult nightlife district. A Tourist Police meeting there on 7 April 2026 followed viral videos of guards using excessive force.

What about animal shows and rainy days?

Wikivoyage also lists a crocodile farm with animal shows and an elephant camp with stage shows. We have left animal-show attractions out of this guide, because of the welfare questions that surround them, and recommend you check any operator's practices before you pay. Nong Nooch and the Sanctuary of Truth both list elephant activities of their own. If animals are part of your holiday, our guides to ethical elephant sanctuaries explain what to look for.

For a wet day, the indoor and covered options are fewer than the outdoor ones. Wikivoyage lists Underwater World in Jomtien, an aquarium with a 105 metre acrylic tunnel, open 09:00 to 18:00; its listed prices of 400 baht for adults and 200 for children carry no date, so confirm them. The shopping centres on Second Road are another option, and Wikivoyage names Royal Garden Plaza, Central Festival and Big C there.

How do you get around, and how many days do you need?

The baht bus is the backbone. Wikivoyage says over 700 dark blue songthaews run, with a fare usually of 10 baht for trips within Pattaya, and warns against telling the driver your destination, because that can be treated as a private charter. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has an information office just outside the centre, open daily 08:30 to 16:30 according to Wikivoyage, and a freephone line, 1672.

How many days is a judgement, not a fact. Our suggestion is three: a boat day, a culture day with the Sanctuary of Truth and a viewpoint, and a free day for the beach or a garden. Tell us your dates and your hotel and we will fit the boat day. If you are choosing between destinations, our guide to Phuket or Pattaya compares them, and our Bangkok to Pattaya guide covers getting there.

Practical checklist

  • Pick a boat day for November to February if you can, and keep a spare day between May and October.
  • Check the distance of anything marketed as Pattaya, because several sights are in Jomtien, Sattahip or Si Racha.
  • Dress modestly and cover your shoulders and knees for the Sanctuary of Truth and the hill shrines.
  • Carry small notes for the 10-baht baht bus and do not tell the driver your destination.
  • Agree a taxi fare for the round trip before heading to Nong Nooch or the floating market.
