The day costs from $60 per person
Our Kanchanaburi day trip from Bangkok costs from $60 per person. It is a shared day tour by minibus of about 13 hours. A minibus collects you from your hotel in Bangkok between about 6:15 and 7:15 am, drives west and reaches Kanchanaburi at about 9:00. The day takes in the Bridge on the River Kwai, a Thai lunch and 2.5 to 3 hours at Erawan Falls, and you are back in Bangkok at about 7:30 to 8:00 pm. All times move with traffic.
Booking is done on WhatsApp. Send us the date, your hotel and the number of guests. We confirm availability, the pickup time and the total before you pay, and how and when to pay is agreed with your booking. We confirm the exact pickup time the day before. For the route stop by stop, see our travel guide for this tour, and for the waterfall on its own our guide to the Erawan Falls day trip from Bangkok.
What the price includes, and what it does not
The price includes return transport from Bangkok in an air-conditioned minibus, pickup at your Bangkok hotel or a central meeting point, an English-speaking guide in Kanchanaburi and lunch at a local Thai restaurant. A Death Railway train ride of about 60 minutes is included if your programme has it. Pickup at the hotel means you do not need to find your own way to a meeting point before dawn.
Not included: the Erawan National Park fee, life jacket rental, the golf cart at the park, drinks and snacks, tips and souvenirs. It is worth asking any seller whether the park fee is inside the price. On our day it is not, so the real cost is the tour price plus the cash you carry. The next two sections give the figures we can source, so you can plan the cash before you go.
The Erawan park fee: what you pay on the spot
The park fee is 300 baht per adult, paid in cash on the day, and it is not part of the tour price. Our tour information gives that figure as of June 2026, and says children pay less. It comes from the Department of National Parks' fee regulation, published in the Royal Gazette on 9 December 2021 and in force from 7 June 2022, according to Thansettakij's report of 6 June 2022. Foreign visitors pay 300 baht for an adult and 150 baht for a child in the group of parks that, according to TrueID's list of 3 June 2022, includes Erawan.
The Thai National Parks site, which is not an official page, gives the same rates for Erawan as of June 2026: 300 baht for adults and 150 baht for children aged 3 to 14, against 60 and 30 baht for Thai citizens. It advises foreign visitors to carry cash for the entrance fee. Wikivoyage's page on the park, updated in August 2025, gives the same two amounts. Rates can change, so the price at the ticket window is the one that counts.
Other small costs at the falls
Three small items come on top. Life jackets for swimming can be rented at the falls for about 30 baht per person, and Wikivoyage's page on the park says a life vest is required to go into the falls. A golf cart to the first tiers costs 20 baht per person, according to the Thai National Parks site; the first tiers are about 700 metres from the visitor centre. Each drink bottle carries a 20 baht deposit, which is refunded when you bring it back.
Food is not allowed beyond the second tier, and on our day lunch comes before the falls. Add up the amounts and an adult who rents a life jacket and takes the golf cart pays about 350 baht on the spot, plus the refundable bottle deposit. Carry the cash in baht, and bring some small notes for tips and drinks. All of these amounts are as given by the park, and they may change.
Is the Death Railway train ride included?
Only on programmes that include it, and we confirm which programme you get with your booking. On those programmes the ride takes about 60 minutes and starts at around 10:30 am, after time on the Bridge on the River Kwai. Other programmes add the Allied war cemetery and the JEATH War Museum. Tell us what you want when you ask for a date. The war sites are memorials, so keep your voice low.
For scale, the Thai Train Guide, last updated on 15 December 2023, lists ordinary trains that leave Kanchanaburi at 6:02 am and 10:30 am and reach Nam Tok, the end of the line, at 8:00 am and 12:05 pm, a run of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, and says foreigners pay a flat 100 baht on that line. Our ride of about 60 minutes is shorter than the full run. Wikipedia's article on the Burma Railway says only the first 130 km in Thailand remain, with trains still running to Nam Tok.
How long is the day, really?
About 13 hours, from the hotel pickup to the drop-off. Wikipedia places Kanchanaburi about 120 km west of Bangkok, and our tour information puts the drive at roughly 2 to 3 hours each way, depending on traffic, with Erawan Falls about another hour from the bridge. The bridge and the town fill the morning, lunch is at about 12:00 to 12:15, and the group has 2.5 to 3 hours at the falls.
The park's hours set the pace. The Thai National Parks site says Erawan is open from 8:00 am to about 4:30 pm and does not admit visitors after about 3:30 pm. The minibus leaves for Bangkok at about 4:30 pm and reaches the city at about 7:30 to 8:00 pm. If you have a late dinner or an early flight booked, do not squeeze this day around it.
Going on your own, and who should skip this day
Going alone is possible. Wikivoyage's page on the park says that as of August 2025 a bus leaves Kanchanaburi bus station for the park about every 1.5 hours, from 8 am to 5:40 pm, for 60 baht. The Thai Train Guide gives the flat 100 baht train fare for foreigners. But you must first get from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, and the park admits nobody after about 3:30 pm. The tour does all of that in one day with pickup at your hotel.
Skip the day if 13 hours is too long for you or your children, if you do not want to swim or walk on wet limestone, or if you only want the bridge, because the day is built around Erawan. Wear swimwear under your clothes and shoes with grip: the limestone is slippery when wet. Our tour schedule article has the packing list.
When to go: seasons and crowds
Wikipedia's article on Erawan National Park gives summer from February to April, a rainy season from May to October and a cold season from November to January. Our tour information says November to January is the coolest and driest part of the year, February to April is hot, so swim early and take a hat, and the rain is heaviest in September and October, when the trails and rocks are wetter and more slippery. As of October 2026 the rainy season is ending.
Weekends and public holidays are crowded at Erawan, and the Thai National Parks site says the park is generally busy every day. During Songkran, 13 to 15 April, the falls turn into a water-fight party, so leave phones and cameras that are not waterproof behind. If you can choose your date, ask us which days are quieter. We confirm the date and the pickup before you pay.
Practical checklist
- Bring about 350 baht in cash per adult for the park fee, a life jacket and the golf cart.
- Wear swimwear under your clothes and shoes with grip; the limestone is slippery when wet.
- Tell us if you want the Death Railway train ride or the war sites; we confirm the programme.
- Pack a towel, a change of clothes, sunscreen, a hat, mosquito repellent and a reusable bottle.
- Keep the evening free: you are back in Bangkok at about 7:30 to 8:00 pm.
- Leave non-waterproof phones and cameras behind if your date falls in Songkran, 13 to 15 April.
