Short answer

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park closes to tourists and overnight stays from 1 November to 15 December 2026. The closure is part of the Department of National Parks' 2026 closure list, published in the Royal Gazette on 9 January 2026, which covers 195 national parks and forest parks. The park reopens on 16 December. Boat trips from Koh Samui to the park therefore stop on 1 November and start again from 16 December.

01Ang Thong National Marine Park is closed to visitors and overnight stays from 1 November to 15 December 2026.
02The dates come from the park service's 2026 closure list, published in the Royal Gazette on 9 January 2026.
03Our Ang Thong day from Koh Samui runs until 31 October and again from 16 December 2026.

What was announced and when

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation published its closure list for 2026 in the Royal Gazette on 9 January 2026. Bangkok Biz News reported that it covers 195 national parks and forest parks and took effect on 1 January 2026. The department says it reviewed the closure periods to match each season's weather and each area's carrying capacity, to give nature time to recover and to keep visitors safe.

For Mu Ko Ang Thong in Surat Thani, the list gives one period: 1 November to 15 December. The entry names the park's beaches, the Thale Nai lake and the campsite on Koh Wua Ta Lap, and marks tourism and overnight stays as closed entirely.

What changes for a visitor

Nobody can land in the park between 1 November and 15 December 2026, whether on a day trip or to stay overnight. Boats from Koh Samui do not go there in this period. The park reopens on 16 December 2026.

The dates are those of the 2026 list. Check the park's own notices before you book a trip close to either date, because a closure period can be changed by the department.

Other Gulf sites closing in the same weeks

Ang Thong is not the only Gulf site on the list. Mu Ko Chumphon National Park, with islands such as Koh Kula, is listed as closed from 1 November to 15 December, and at Hat Khanom–Mu Ko Thale Tai the island of Koh Wang Nok is closed from 15 October to 15 December. At Hat Wanakon in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Koh Chan and Koh Thai Sri close from 1 November to 31 January.

We do not run trips to those sites. If you plan any national-park island in the Gulf of Thailand for November or December, read the Gazette list for that park first, because the closure periods differ from park to park.

What to do if you are on Koh Samui

Our Ang Thong Marine Park tour from Koh Samui starts from $50 per person and runs until 31 October, then again from 16 December 2026. It is a speedboat day with hotel pickup between about 7:30 and 8:30 am, a boat that leaves the pier in the north of the island at about 9:00, and a return to your hotel by about 5:00 pm. The national park fee is paid on the day and is not in the price, so bring cash.

If your dates fall inside the closure, our Samui Pig Island and island day is a different trip, from $50 per person, that does not go to Ang Thong; send us your dates and we will confirm what is available. Our Ang Thong price guide explains the fee and the closure in more detail.

Practical checklist

  • Do not book an Ang Thong day for any date from 1 November to 15 December 2026.
  • If you are on Koh Samui now, the last days to go are up to 31 October.
  • Plan Ang Thong for 16 December or later, and bring cash for the national park fee.
  • Ask us about a different island day if your dates fall inside the closure.
